Buildings & facilities

During the build of our new equine facilities reducing our carbon footprint and developing facilities that can cope with the changing extremes of weather have been at the forefront of the design.

  • We have recycled as much of our interior framework as possible reducing waste.
  • Rainwater off our roofspace is captured and channelled away to maintain or school surface and provide irrigation for our hay field.
  • Solar panels are due to be fitted late 2023 which we hope to use to offset electricity for a fleet of electric vehicles.
  • The car park has been designed to channel rainwater away from the building to minimise flooding.
  • We've sourced metal offcuts for our large guttering channels for rainwater that would otherwise have gone to waste.
  • Rather than replace all old corrugated sheets from the farm building, these have been repaired and repainted.
  • Hedges of native species have been planted.
  • Our verges are left to grow in order to provide a habitat for wildlife.
  • Our school surface consists of recycled surface material.
  • Interior walls and ceilings have been fully insulated to minimise heat loss.
  • All new light fitting use energy efficient LED lights and are on automatic timers so they cannot be left on.

Anaesthesia

  • We reduced our anaesthesia time by coordinating surgery days. This allows a designated theatre team to be present and minimise avoidable delays.
  • Surgery time is kept to a minimum by using experienced surgeons that are efficient in their use of time.
  • A new state of the art scavenging system is in place.
  • We dispense our medicines in paper bags and encourage clients to collect medicines from their nearest practice to reduce mileage.
  • The medicines are delivered to our practices in coordination with our small animal colleagues as part of our pre-existing organised delivery network.

Giving back to the local community

As a practice we aim to reduce the carbon footprint of our daily activities and continue to contribute to our local community.

  • As a practice we have always been involved in local community activities.
  • We have supported the Veterinary Nursing College in Market Rasen generating jobs and further education to young people.
  • We have supported the inception of a new animal art exhibition at the college providing a cultural focal point in the Market Rasen calendar.
  • We help to maintain riverbanks and the cricket pitch locally and sponsor local charitable activities.
  • Our maintenance tea regularly contribute to local community needs such as house clearance and maintenance repairs when needed.
